More than 250 works by 37 artists from 14 European countries is exhibited including paintings, sculptures, art installations, etc.
Since the early 1920s art had found a new definition and direction. It is the artist’s and art appreciator’s point of view that determines how an object can be called a work of art. In other words, there are at least two possible ways of understanding the body and materiality of an object in art: the body of the object as art and the object in art. For example, consider an artwork where new forms are added to it. The estrangement of positions and situations distinguishes art from non-art.
As Viktor Shklovsky wrote in his influential article, “Art as Technique” (1917): „Art is thinking in images.“ Poetry is a special way of thinking; it is, precisely, a way of thinking in images, a way which permits what is generally called „economy of mental effort,“ a way which makes for „a sensation of the relative ease of the process.“ „Without imagery there is no art“—“Art is thinking in images.“ These maxims have led to far-fetched interpretations of individual works of art. Attempts have been made to evaluate even music, architecture, and lyric poetry as imagistic thought.
This exhibition introduces various materials and techniques used by artists from various backgrounds and nations. Creativity breaks the limits or boundaries.
